Seven people, who were not expected to be great or anything, formed this impossible band. At the moment the sun sank into the ocean, they performed passionately and feverishly as if they had no past and no future. On this long lost land and ocean, at this very moment of their seemingly meaningless life, they created a legend of Hengchun.

Synopsis
Aga left Hengchun for Taipei in the hope of becoming a singer in a band. After ten years of hard work, he returns home frustrated, his dream unfulfilled, and soon gets a job at the local post office. Tomoko is a Japanese model going down in popularity who has just been asked to put together a local warm-up band for an upcoming Japanese superstar's beach concert to be held in Hengchun. However, recruiting band members proves to be as difficult a task as the search for the famous seven samurai. Still, together with five ordinary Hengchun residents, they form an impossible band.
One day, Aga receives a parcel from Japan not meant for him – in fact, it is to be delivered to Cape No. 7, an address that no longer exists. But even though he can't find the address, Aga doesn’t return the parcel to Japan. Instead, he opens it to find love letters written some 60 years ago by a Japanese teacher and addressed to a Taiwanese girl he was deeply in love with, but had to leave behind in Taiwan.

Reviews
"Its appeal has reached an extremely wide spectrum of audience, comprising all ages, sexes and classes, from young people to old age pensioners, housewives, school children... Never have I seen so many viewers aged 50 and above going to cinemas. The thing about this film is, everybody likes it for different reasons. And its screenplay, dialogue, etc., even music, will set you thinking about it again and again, for a long, long time."

"Cape No. 7 is written by a director who wants to make people laugh (relatively rare in Taiwanese cinema), and who actually has the talent to deliver the jokes (even more rare)."
-- Brian Hu, Asia Pacific Arts, UCLA
"Taiwanese director Wei Te-sheng's Cape No. 7 has been an unexpected hit in many ways. Not only has the film - made with just NT$50 million (S$2.2million) and released in Taiwan in August - grossed a whopping NT$460 million in box-office takings there, it has also raked in $300,000 in Singapore in the two weeks after its release last month.
The movie, Wei's first full-length feature, also bagged six Golden Horse awards last Saturday. All the brouhaha has pushed its filming location - Hengchun, a once-sleepy village in Pingtung County - to unprecedented heights of popularity, turning it into a tourist draw."
