Plot:
One of Teshigahara lesser known works, Summer Soldier centers on Jim, a young army deserter, he doesn’t want to fight in the Vietnam campaign, who has shacked up with a Japanese bar hostess. Terrified of being caught, Jim hides every time someone comes to the door. Wanting to help her lover, Reiko attempts to find help through a group led by a mutton-chopped fellow named Pete, Nathan himself, however, the group asks for the deserter to return to base to fight inside the system itself. Jim, desiring to flee instead of fight, refuses to go and instead seeks refuge with a group of Japanese citizens who are protesting the war in Vietnam by harboring deserters.
