Little Norse Prince (Triple Audio: Jap/Eng/French)

If you are a fan of Studio Ghibli, in particular the films of Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata, then you should definitely see this. It is directed by Takahata and whilst Miyazaki was one of the film’s animators. The film was way before Ghibli (released in 1968) but this film is brilliant and shows off their talents. Even if you have never seen a Ghibli films, I would seriously recommend this film (ESPECIALLY the original Japanese dub) on the basis that this film is awesome in its own right and needs to be appreciated. If you are a Miyazaki fan, then you will find a lot of elements from here were used in Miyazaki films, in particular the dual-layered Hilda who was an influence in a lot of Miyazaki’s female characters, in particular, Sheeta in Laputa, Nausicaa and Kushana in Nausicaa, Clarisse and Fujiko in Cagliostro, and Lady Eboshi in Princess Mononoke.  

The Japanese and French (as well as all subtitle files) were already on the file when I retrieved it. Using a program, I added the English dub file from another video file. I know that there is a faint buzzing in the English audio. However, that was on the English video file before I merged it. The dub is old; according to Wikipedia, there is only one English dub and that was prepared back in 1969 and was shown on TV in 1971. I have done some digging and there seems to be no mention of this English dub appearing on DVD or even VHS so my guess is that the dub is a TV-rip, maybe even recorded from a VHS. Either way, this audio is old which may explain the buzzing. However, you can hear what is being said clearly. Just warning you all so you’re not commenting on that aspect of the English dub

Synopsis
Hols, a kid living in a unnamed Scandinavian/Eastern Europe culture of the Iron Age, recovers the Sword of the Sun from the rock giant Moog and learns from his dying father that he must returns to his ancestral territory. In the process, he defends a village from the attacks of Grundewald, a warlord/ice demon and befriends the enigmatic Hilda, a lonely and beautiful girl who sings haunting songs (and who hides a terrible secret).
