Great Day, a simple story with truly amazing scenic locations and good camera works. Most of us got to agree that the filmed location in one of the paddy fields in Perlis was captured beautifully. We had an impulsive urge to visit there, just like how Ice Kacang Puppy Love and Sepet captured the nostalgic feel of Ipoh town. You can tell immediately that the camera works and the feel was very much influenced by Yasmin Ahmad previous projects.
'Great Day' tells the story about the importance of family, the communication gap between generations and the loneliness of our parents when we step out to the society to pursue our career. This movie had less comedic scenes compared to previous Woohoo, it was unexpected to me as usually Chinese New Year movies are set in a lighter mood.
A sub story about the relationship between the grandfather and his grandchild is genuinely touching and it really reminds us much of our grandfather was our very best friend when our parents were busy working. In my opinion that was the definite main stealer of the entire show.
In all, 'Great Day' feels like you've took a vacation recently to a remote village. Tears would flow, but do not put too much expectation on the plots, just sit back and enjoy the scenic views of paddy fields.
Now that you reminded me, I wonder if anyone would be interested in taking a trip on KTM to Perlis or Alor Setar?
