Synopsis
The phenomenon that began the popular Lovers trilogy (Lovers in Paris, Lovers in Prague, Lovers), Lovers in Paris achieved over 50% ratings during its broadcast, making it one of the highest-rated Korean dramas to this day. It won Best TV Drama and Best TV Actress for lead Kim Jung Eun at the 41st Baeksang Art Awards and the 2005 Asia TV Awards.
With part of its success being attributed to its use of luminous Paris as a setting, it also sparked a wave of dramas utilizing exotic overseas locales for their shooting, hoping to achieve the same success. A tale of hope and romance, chance and the unexpected gifts that life sends our way, this grown-up fairy tale encapsulates some of the best aspects of Korean cinema with its well-written story, nuanced acting, and magical touches - it should not be missed.
Kang Tae Young (Kim Jung Eun), the daughter of a poor film director, moves to Paris after her father dies. While dreaming of writing a screenplay, she takes a job as a housekeeper at the home of sophisticated, cynical millionaire Han Ki Joo (Park Shin Yang). Han Ki Joo, having moved to Paris to recover from a failed marriage, has his sights set on taking over the position of Chairman in his father's company. The last thing on his mind in this city of love is romance, and he quickly grows impatient with straightforward, spunky Tae Young and fires her.
When an opportunity arises to help further his business plans, he hires her to pretend to be his fiance. Gradually the two begin to develop feelings for each other, but misunderstandings quickly divide them, not least of which is Yoon Soo Hyuk (Lee Dong Gun), Ki Joo's nephew and closest friend, who meets and falls in love with Tae Young. Faced with lives, circumstances, and transcontinental distances which seem determined to separate them, this is a story of two lovers overcoming chance, tragedy, and their own fearful hearts to find out whether they can together make more than a beautiful memory in Paris.
