Plot/Synopsis
Producer Wong Jing and director Andrew Lau (The Storm Riders) bring us Ghost Lantern, an entertaining ghost/human romance with a touch of grisly horror. Tony Leung Ka Fai stars as Fai, a lowlife triad who's pursued by a comely ghost (Chingmy Yau). The two were lovers in a previous life, but she died horribly, and her skin was used to make a paper lantern! As a result, her soul has been in eternal torment, and now evil gang boss Hung (Roy Cheung) has possession of the lantern. If Fai can reunite her bones with the lantern, it'll free her soul for reincarnation. But first, Fai has to go through Hung, who isn't exactly what he appears to be, and even the help of kindly cop Kwong (Tommy Wong) may not be enough to stop the out-of-control gangster! An appealing mix of horror, comedy, action, and gothic romance, Ghost Lantern plays like a cross between the classic A Chinese Ghost Story and the grisly Shaw Brothers flick Human Lanterns - except with the gorgeous Chingmy Yau in the lead role!
