Plot:

Kang In-ho (Gong Yoo) is the new arts teacher at the Benevolence Academy in the fictional city of Mujin, North Jeolla. He has a dark past - his wife was a high school student who committed suicide and his daughter is under the care of his mother. In-ho is hired to teach deaf students in school but he soon discovers a dark secret that lurks among the students and the faculty. Together with Seo Ye-jin (Jung Yoo Mi), a human rights center secretary, they aid the children in their fight.

Notes:

The Crucible is a South Korean film based on the novel of the same name by Gong Ji-young, starring Gong Yoo and Jung Yoo Mi. It is based on a true story of mass sexual abuse of deaf students at Gwangju Inhwa School, Gwangju in the early 2000s. Five days after the film premiered on 22 September, it surpassed the one million viewers mark at the box office.

The film has sparked public outcry over lenient court rulings, prompting police to reopen the case and lawmakers to introduce bills for the human rights of the vulnerable. Four out of the six teachers at the school for whom serious punishment was recommended by the education authority were reinstated after they escaped punishment under the statute of limitations. Only two of them were convicted of repeated rapes of eight young students and received jail terms of less than a year. 71-year-old ex teacher Kim Yeong-il recently claimed that two children had died when the incident took place in 1964, after which he was beaten and forced to resign his job by the vice principal. Two months after the film's release and resulting controversy, Gwangju City officially shut down the school in November 2011.

Plot
In autumn of 1980, an elderly Chinese American entrepreneur, Xu Jingyou ( Liu Qiong), returns to China, and finds his son, Xu Lingjun ( Zhu Shimao), a herdsman working in Chilechuan Ranch in northwestern China. The father wants to take his son to the United States to inherit his assets. However, the junior Xu is very distant with his father. More than 30 years ago, the father had abandoned his wife and son to do business in America. His mother died of disease and Xu becomes an orphan. After graduating from high school, Xu became a teacher. In 1957, he was classified as a "rightist" and sent to work in a ranch in the underdeveloped northwest. In 1962, when the labor penalty was terminated, Xu stayed at the ranch as a herdsman. Due to despair, Xu even attempted to commit suicide. But his fellow ranchers, especially Grandpa and Grandma Dong and Guo Zi, give him the courage and strength to carry on. During Cultural Revolution, Guo Zi and other ranchers protect him from political persecution. In 1972, Xu marries Li Xiuzhi, a village girl who had fled the famine in Sichuan. They give birth to a son, Little Qingqing, and the family lived a carefree life. Xu was rehabilitated in 1979 and returned to his post as a teacher. In the evening when Xu meets his father at the Peking Restaurant, his heart is uneasy. He recalls his past at the ranch and his wife's trust in his returning, which consolidates his decision to stay in China. The senior Xu finally understands his son, and the two resume their kinship. After sending his father home, Xu returns to the ranch and to his friends and family.

Reception
The film won Best Supporting Actor ( Niu Ben) and Best Editing ( Zhou Dingwen) in 1983 at the 3rd Golden Rooster Awards. It also won Best Picture and Best Supporting Actor ( Niu Ben) at the 6th Hundred Flowers Awards. The film was screened in the Un Certain Regard section at the 1983 Cannes Film Festival.

Plot:

Synopsis

Plot / Synopsis

Lui Fei-hap (Niki Chow), known as "Lui Hap", is a thirty-something Emergency Unit sergeant of the Hong Kong Police Force, who has been let down in love many times. So when she finds her perfect man (Vincent Wong) she jumps at the opportunity, never suspecting that he is a drug baron (Vincent Wong) until she arrests him.

To make things worse their relationship hits the headlines when tabloid reporter Gordon Lam (Michael Tse), known as A1, stumbles upon it while following another story. Lui Hap's and A1's paths continue to cross when pursuing duties and stories, sometimes co-operating and sometimes as enemies, sometimes saving the other and sometimes playing practical jokes on the other. A mother goose to her section, Lui Hap comes into conflict with her new commanding officer Madam Kiu (Mandy Wong), nicknamed by her subordinates as Madam Kill, when Kiu demands perfection of her section.

Before long Lui Hap finds herself falling in love with new recruit Wong Tze-tsuen (Matthew Ko), only for A1 to stand in her way again. It turns out that it is her father, Boy Sir (Benz Hui), who is the mastermind of this and that A1 is his accomplice. Pushed to her limits both at work and in love, Lui Hap has no choice but to fight back in the name of love.
